The STS scanner now only available at the Centre for Sight provides accurate measures of the internal structure of the eye to enable correct sizing of the Implantable Contact Lens. This Ultrasound Biomicroscopy technology is now the Gold Standard for decisions on size of the ICL.
STS Scanner in action |
Eyes vary in size and the sulcus where the ICL rests varies from patient to patient. The sulcus sits behing the iris the colored part of the eye and cannot be seen. The only way this can be visualised is using High Frequency Ultrasound. The STS scanner has been designed specifically for the ICL and takes a few minutes of a skilled technicians time to perform. The device automatically measures several parts of the eye with phenomenal accuracy and necessary for accurately working out the for the ICL dimension specifically for that eye.

Virtual SimulationTo check how the ICL will fit in place, the STS scanner provides a virtual simulation of how the specific ICL will fit in the eye being imaged. This provides the surgeon with the reassurance that the chosen ICL will be correct and perfect for the eye.
Like all surgical procedures, planning is vital. Advanced and sophisticated diagnostics, enables the consulting and treating surgeon to provide a highly customised solution for the patient.
