In 2008, Hocomb, who was extremely nearsighted and suffered from the degenerative eye condition keratoconus, had a STAAR Visian ICL implanted in each eye to correct the nearsightedness. Immediately, his vision improved from a reported 20/5000 to 20/20, and he was able to resume his quest for Olympic gold.

We were proud to find out that our new dedicated eye hospital on the outskirts of East Grinstead was featured in this highly respected Italian magazine, Domus - the world's most influential architectural and design journal.
In the article Jay Merrick celebrates the design by describing how "the building expresses the rural vernacular so powerfully in outline and plan that it flips into an otherness."

| Norwegian laser eye surgeon Dr. Trond Thilesen, flew all the way from Norway last week to undergo IntraLASIK treatment at Centre for Sight.
Dr. Trond Thilesen, Co-owner and Managing Director of All Bright & Clear Synskirurgi, Norway, flewback the next day to enjoy his new vision and get straight back to performing laser eye surgery himself using similar technology!

| Furniture going in! |

| Following a few hiccups typical of a build of this scale, we are finally starting to move into our new hospital. The maze of consulting and diagnostic rooms, and two state-of-the-art theatres have really impressed all of our staff and we are looking forward to showing it to the public. The interior is light and airy, with beautiful bespoke wooden furniture softening the highly specialised technology we are renowned for. |

| "Business Design" features Q&A with Toh Shimazaki |

Yuli Toh of top London based architect firm, Toh Shimazaki was featured this month in leading architect magazine "Building Design".
Toh Shimazaki who have taken on the challenge of building our new state-of-the-art hospital are quizzed on how they find space for architectural expression in healthcare projects.
"We started out making new of refurbished public spaces at existing hospitals. But we now have the new-build Centre for Sight in East Grinstead under construction, where we're also designing for treatment and clinical programmes. The building will host private clinics previously held at the Queen Victoria Hospital, which is renowned for reconstructive surgery..." |

Centre for Sight Medical Director, Sheraz Daya, was featured this month in the leading Optometric publication, "Optometry Today":
"As one of the first ophthalmologists in the UK to perform LASIK surgery in 1995, Sheraz Daya has been at the forefront of the technological advancement in laser eye surgery over the past decade.

| 'Topping-Off'ceremony |

Today a 'topping-off' ceremony was held to celebrate the roof of our dedicated new state-of-the-art ophthalmic hospital being covered. The ceremony was attended by our staff, Takero Shimazaki and Tomoyo Arimoto from the award winning, London based architect firm, Toh Shimazaki, who are responsible for the design, David Hobson from the building contractors, J C Lilywhites, and many of those who have been working on the build to date.
Mr Hobson explained how the ceremony had evolved from one performed in Pagan times and was intended to help protect the building and its occupants from harm. He also took the opportunity to thank everyone who had been working so hard on the project.
Two young oak trees were presented to Sheraz Daya, Medical Director of Centre for Sight and the Corneoplastic Unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital, and his wife and fellow ophthalmic consultant, Marcela Espinosa-Lagana. Mr Daya promised to plant the trees within the extensive grounds of the hospital and looked forward to seeing them grow along with the facility !

| CRYSTALENS - Phenomenal Outcomes presented internationally |
Medical Director, Sheraz Daya MD, will be presenting our outcomes of CrystaLens at the annual congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Berlin next week!
Point of interest: Centre for Sight outcomes have surpassed those of the International Registry as well as those of US surgeons with 75% of patients completely free of glasses (both distance and near) and 80% never requiring the use of readers!
