2) Avoid the risk of ECTASIA - a complication that can occur from an unexpectedly thick flap. In Ectasia the cornea is thinned beyond the margin of safety resulting in instability.
3) No INDUCED changes in refraction which can occur with irregularly thick flaps from Blade LASIK affecting Visual Outcomes
Outcomes:
We have also been pleasantly surprised by the increased quality of our already impressive outcomes for Laser vision correction. By being able to cut the initial flap in such a controlled fashion, we are able to closely predict our results. In creating such PRECISE and UNIFROM flaps we avoid surprises of new astigmatism and aberrations and it is thus no surprise that we have BETTER VISUAL OUTCOMES and lower RETREATMENT RATES.
Enhancement/Retreatment:
ENHANCEMENT or retreatments are necessary because of over or undercorrection and regression where the eye slips back a little. Usually enhancements are performed at 3 months when the eye has stabilized. Rates of enhancement vary from centre to centre ranging from 4 to 10%. Our retreatment rate for regular Bladed LASIK for shortsight used to be less than 2%. Now with IntraLASIK it is less than 1%.
