IntraLASIK - The process

Screenings :

Complimentary screenings are offered at Centre for Sight. This usually determines your suitability for surgery and involves some of the tests listed below in consultation. If you are suitable, time permitting, a full consultation will be carried out.

Consultation :

A thorough evaluation of your eyes along with multiple investigations will determine your suitability for surgery. Because of the number of tests required (probably more than most centres), we follow a linear model for assessment which means that you will be moved forward from one testing area to the next. This may necessitate your having to wait for a short while between tests. The staff responsible for each area will explain the tests to you. Please be reassured all candidates are evaluated by a consultant surgeon.

Consultation Pathway

Vision testing:

With and without glasses. High and low contrast with glasses.

Lensometry:

Glasses checked.

Autorefraction and Keratometry:

Automated test of your eye refraction and measurement of corneal curvature.

Pupillometry:

Pupil size evaluation in dark light using TWO devices.

Refraction:

Test for level of correction required.

Corneal Topography:

Using a Placido corneal reflective system.

Corneal Tomography:

Using the Orbscan IIz system (Bausch and Lomb), measures the cornea in 3 dimensions.

Wavefront evaluation:

Refractive power and fine aberrations are measured using the Zywave (Bausch and Lomb) system.

Pachometry:

Corneal thickness using an Ultrasound device.

Intraocular pressures

Cycloplegic Refraction

Pupil Dilation:

Enables the consultant to evaluate the lens and retina as well as the results of all other tests. Your candidacy for vision correction will be discussed with you and the best option for correction. Should you not be suitable, then your consultant will suggest alternatives.

You will be given a consent form to take home and read at your leisure - please bring this in when you return for the IntraLASIK procedure.
