| Eye Jargon and Misconceptions |
 |
The last few weeks have been particularly busy with numerous calls and email enquiries with many seeking laser eye surgery and wanting to know more about the Centre for Sight difference! A number of misconceptions have also been revealed, particularly related to what factors are important in making a decision.
Your eye sight is precious – do your research well and entrust your care to those who you believe will look after you well.
These are factors in order of importance, that we believe should be considered and illustrate the Centre for Sight difference – |

EXPERTISE: Laser eye surgery involves altering the shape of the cornea - surely it makes sense to choose a surgeon with special expertise in both cornea and refractive surgery. All Centre for Sight surgeons are Fellowship (specialty trained) in both Cornea and Refractive surgery and their expertise is well known with Doctors and Eye Surgeons choosing Centre for Sight for their own care |

CARE PATHWAY: Preoperative assessment and decision in terms of the best personalised procedure for you is important. Is it not best carried out by an eye surgeon who can pick up issues that might require attention beforehand, e.g. lid inflammation, dry eye, and other subtle problems that can influence outcomes? At every consultation both before and after surgery patients at Centre for Sight are seen by Fellowship trained eye surgeons. Continuity of care is maintained by our team of 5 corneal surgeons who are in close communication. The selection of procedure is personalised based on findings at consultation and the best (not necessarily the most expensive) procedure for you the patient will be recommended by the examining surgeon.

TECHNOLOGY: Technology is important and expertise and knowledge in its use is vital for best outcomes. There is also considerable confusion with commercial chains re-badging technology with their own unique brand names. Consultants at Centre for Sight as Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) work closely advising the industry on new developments. As a result, Centre for Sight are always have the most advanced technology available using the most up to date Tecnolas Perfect Vision (previously Bausch and Lomb) Z100 laser as well as the 5th Generation Intralase femtosecond laser (UK's first) for creating corneal flaps. There is no confusion about treatment algorithms and no alteration of brand names. As indicated the choice of procedure by the surgeon is personalised to the patient based on the results of tests performed and the clinical examination. |

RECOMMENDATION: Reassure yourself - Ask your optician / optometrist for a recommendation in terms of where to go – ask them where they would have their own eyes treated – ask them about the reputation of Centre for Sight and other providers. |
