| Sheraz Daya, Medical Director of Centre for Sight, was again invited this year to direct a course on Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (partial thickness grafting), at the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The faculty included a number of international participants (USA, Italy, Japan, Singapore) as well our own consultants Saj Khan and Damian Lake. |

The course has been conducted by Sheraz Daya for 6 years and this year was recorded for the ONE program of the American Academy, which will be available online for ophthalmologists wishing to learn this technique. The USA for a variety of reasons is lagging behind the rest of the world in terms of adopting Lamellar Keratoplasty. The technique does require some skill and experience has been phenomenal for patients who for instance have keratoconus, almost eliminating the risk of potentially blinding rejection altogether.
Combining these techniques with the use of the Intralase laser has provided a more accurate means of performing transplantation and patients have obtained phenomenal benefit with faster visual rehabilitation.
