Intralase Lamellar Keratoplasty (Intralase LK)

Another UK first at Centre for Sight

This procedure is similar to the Automated Lamellar Therapeutic Keratoplasty above however uses the precision of the Intralase Femtosecond Laser to cut the cornea. The Intralase laser has been popularised for the creation of flaps in Lasik (IntraLASIK). The highly precise Intralase can divide the cornea to perform a partial thickness (lamellar keratoplasty) reliably at a variety of depths and diameters. The procedure has now almost completely replaced the ALTK procedure at Centre for Sight.

Intralase lamellar resection taking place on the patient. Left image shows separation in process and Right image shows the vertical separation of the cornea. The precision of the cut is impressive!

Left image shows superficial scarring interfering with vision. Right image is one month following Femtosecond Lamellar Keratoplasty using Intralase. The graft and cornea are now crystal clear. Stitches come out in one month.
