Surgery in Tanzania 2

Busy day yesterday – managed to get 7 cases accomplished ! Very hard choosing which ones to prioritize with so many patients with such severe problems. Dealt with the very acute glaucoma cases and perforations (more difficult technically) and then those blind in both eyes. Feel very sorry for one patient in his 20’s who has lost almost all vision from Glaucoma. Hope the valves help preserve what little he has left.

Thank you Dr. Ahmed of New World Medical who donated so many valves for charity as well as Visionshare consortium of eye banks who donated graft tissue. Just saw the patients – seem to be doing well. Certainly the corneal transplants were pleased they could now walk around without assistance ! Have now left them in the capable hands of Dr. Kazim Dhalla (pictured) ! Congratulations to all at CCBRT – they are doing a great job – I shall definitely have to return again soon…
