Centre for Sight is embarking on something truly meaningful. June is Child Vision Awareness Month and we are supporting a cause that is very close to our hearts – Orbis and the Flying Eye Hospital. As a trustee, Orbis’s work fighting global blindness is a cause that Mr. Sheraz Daya has been instrumental in championing.

A little bit about The Flying Eye Hospital:

Orbis’s Flying Eye Hospital is the world’s only fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an MD-10 aircraft. The plane serves as a beacon of hope in the global effort to end avoidable blindness, and particularly for the 1 billion people who live with sight loss from treatable conditions. With a transformative interior and cutting-edge technology, the Flying Eye Hospital travels the world, sharing knowledge and enhancing the skills of eye care professionals in underserved communities.

Wherever the Flying Eye Hospital lands, it not only provides crucial training to eye care teams, but also acts as a catalyst for change. With state-of-the-art revolutionary facilities, it raises awareness, engages with local governments, and advocates for improved eye care policies. Facilitating live 3D broadcasts of surgeries, the aircraft provides an immersive learning experience for those in training. It also features a simulation centre with virtual reality, artificial eyes and lifelike manikins. Simulation training enhances the skills and confidence of eye care professionals and improves surgical outcomes for patients.
