Long sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism are both refractive errors but have different causes. Long sightedness occurs when the eye is too short or the cornea too flat, resulting in blurred near vision. Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or lens has an irregular curvature, causing blurred or distorted vision at all distances. The two conditions can occur simultaneously — it is common to have some degree of astigmatism alongside long sightedness. Both can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or surgical procedures available at Centre for Sight.
