The main treatment is vitrectomy surgery, where the vitreous gel is removed and replaced with a gas bubble to help the macula heal. In some cases, an injection of ocriplasmin may be used to close the hole without surgery. Centre for Sight’s retinal surgeons are highly experienced in both techniques.
