Medical director Sheraz Daya and past patient Violet Baldry, featured live on Skynews to talk about about VICTUS Laser Cataract Surgery.
Violet Baldry is the first ever NHS patient in the UK to have VICTUS Laser Cataract surgery, performed by Sheraz Daya in June/July 2013. Centre for Sight believes laser cataract surgery, a precise and highly reproducible procedure benefits patients with better outcomes and increased safety. It should thus be used in all patients and at Centre for Sight is used as a standard in all cataract and refractive lens exchange procedures.
“I thought I was going blind!” Violet commented. Cataracts are the gradual hardening of your natural lens that if not treated, leads to blindness. Everybody will start to develop cataracts at some point in their lives (usually age 50 upwards – even babies are sometimes born with juvenile cataracts). Cataracts are very quickly and easily treated with surgery, and is the most common surgical procedure performed in the UK. “I don’t know of a procedure that is more life changing and so immediate” added Violet.
Laser technology is the ‘new big thing’ in cataract surgery. Centre for Sight introduced the VICTUS laser to the UK in 2012, and offers the procedure to all patients Centre for Sight in its usual uncompromising stance believes that Laser cataract surgery should not just be a premium procedure for those who can only afford the best treatment. For the moment with a special arrangement with the providers Bausch and Lomb, Laser cataract surgery is available on NHS patients at Centre for Sight. High performance lenses such as Trifocals are not available on NHS patients and to benefit from these lenses, patients do need to pay for this privately.
