Mr Edward Lee specializes in a list of eye-related procedures related to the retina. He is trained in numerous and varied medical procedures for patients requiring vitrectomy, retinal detachment surgery, macular hole surgery, cataract surgery or treatment for floaters (among many other conditions).
Mr Lee presently is a consultant Ophthalmologist and Surgeon practising in Centre for Sight, Oxshott centre and at a number of private hospitals around London, including in Ashtead, Croydon and North Cheam. His NHS base is the Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he is the head consultant for retinal services.
In his recent research, Mr Lee and his team have published a pilot study following retinal detachment repair displacement of the retina, relative to its pre-detachment position that can be detected with auto-fluorescence imaging. They are in the process of conducting a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the role of posturing as a means of preventing retinal displacement.
Education & Training
Mr Edward Lee studied Medicine at Oxford University, where he won an Open Academic Scholarship from Brasenose College and a number of prizes following end of year exams. Since qualifying he has worked in the UK and New Zealand before sub-specialising with specialist fellowships at St.Thomas’ Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Mr Lee is a frequent presenter at national and international ophthalmology meetings. His principal areas of research relate to improving patient outcomes following retinal surgeries. His PhD thesis was on evolving treatments, including gene therapies and stem cell techniques, for retinal causes of visual loss.
Edward Lee has over 35 research papers published in the medical and scientific literature. The majority of these relate to patient outcomes following retinal surgeries. He has ongoing research projects related to improving the quality of vision following retinal surgeries and avoiding symptoms of distortion.
