What is ELIOS™ Vision Laser?
ELIOS™ Vision Laser is a laser-based minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) that uses non-thermal excimer laser energy to create a series of microscopic channels through the trabecular meshwork, the eye’s primary drainage tissue, into Schlemm’s canal. This enhances the eye’s own fluid outflow pathway to lower intraocular pressure and protect the optic nerve.
Unlike many MIGS procedures that require an implant, ELIOS™ leaves no device inside the eye, reducing long-term implant-related considerations while still providing meaningful pressure control. It may be performed:
• Simultaneously with cataract surgery, making efficient use of the existing surgical pathway to treat both conditions, or
• As a standalone glaucoma intervention, where appropriate.
ELIOS™ is registered for use in the UK and has been used in Europe with a growing body of clinical evidence supporting its safety and sustained pressure-lowering benefits.
Types of MIGS Performed at Centre for Sight
1
A laser-based MIGS procedure that creates precise micro-channels in the trabecular meshwork to enhance aqueous outflow. ELIOS™ requires no implants and preserves the eye’s natural anatomy, making it an attractive option for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
2
A flexible, scaffold-like implant inserted into Schlemm’s canal that both bypasses resistance and gently dilates the natural drainage pathway. Hydrus is designed to provide more extensive coverage of the canal than a single stent and is often chosen for patients who require greater pressure reduction at the time of cataract surgery.
3
While not implant-based MIGS, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and direct SLT (DSLT) are often used alongside or prior to MIGS to reduce eye pressure non-invasively by improving trabecular meshwork function.

Procedure Type
Hydrus Microstent
How it works
Scaffold dilates and supports Schlemm’s canal while bypassing resistance
Best For
Mild–moderate glaucoma needing greater pressure reduction
Pros
Broader canal coverage; effective IOP lowering
Cons
Implant-based; usually combined with cataract surgery
Procedure Type
SLT
How it works
Laser stimulates trabecular meshwork to improve drainage
Best For
Early glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Pros
Non-invasive; repeatable; no implants
Cons
Effect may diminish over time

Who Is Suitable for ELIOS™ Laser Treatment?
ELIOS™ Vision Laser is designed for patients with glaucoma who require effective, minimally invasive pressure reduction while preserving the natural anatomy of the eye. Suitability is always determined following a detailed consultant-led assessment.

You may be suitable for ELIOS™ if you
Have mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma
Require lower intraocular pressure despite drops or wish to reduce long-term reliance on medication
Are undergoing cataract surgery and would benefit from combined glaucoma treatment
Have healthy angle anatomy suitable for laser trabeculostomy
Prefer an implant-free glaucoma procedure
Your ophthalmologist will evaluate your individual eye health and determine if ELIOS™ is the right fit for your glaucoma and cataract treatment needs.

ELIOS™ Vision Laser may not be suitable for everyone. Patients with advanced or end-stage glaucoma, narrow-angle or angle-closure glaucoma, or significant scarring or structural abnormalities of the eye’s drainage system may require alternative treatments. In cases where very low eye pressure targets are needed, other surgical options may be more appropriate. A full consultant-led assessment is essential to determine the safest and most effective treatment pathway.

Patient Success Stories
A first class experience
The whole process, start to finish, is first class. The facility at East Grinstead is superb and the staff were friendly and professional. The consultant, Saj Khan, is fantastic, a great communicator as well as being a leader in his work.
I had replacement lenses, after 3 months they became a little cloudy, distorting my vision. This is a known problem. I booked a consultation, within 2 hours I had been assessed and had laser treatment. No fuss, no problem, job done.

5* Lens Replacement Procedure
I had tri focal lens replacement, both eyes done on the same day by Mr Daya. I wish I’d had it done sooner, it’s totally life changing. I researched the procedure for many months and selected Centre for Sight and I’m so glad I did. The whole process is first class from the very first contact, the initial tests could not be more thorough and the procedure is totally painless. The whole team could not be more helpful, I cannot praise them enough. I have perfect all round vision now so if you’re considering having the procedure done then this is definitely the place to choose you won’t regret it
